  201. I use a G5RV. It looks something like a center-fed dipole except that
  202. where the center-fed feedline is connected actually is part of the
  203. antenna and so it is 'T' shaped. The feedline that feeds off the bottom
  204. of the 'T'. I have it set up so that it looks like an inverted V dipole
  205. and the ends come down to about 10 feet off the ground. It works very
  206. well and tunes up on 80,40, 20, 15 and some of the WARC bands (I make
  207. the statement about the WARC bands not that I have them but a friend
  208. who has the same antenna does and he can tune thos bands). The antenna
  209. is home-brew and so you can make it with relatively little expense.

  234. These are both good radios, and at their sale prices, they're good buys.
  235. They can scan, several different ways, but *only* in the ham bands. These
  236. radios have narrow tightly filtered front ends to reduce the typical intermod
  237. and overload problems from out of band signals that the wideband HTs on the 
  238. market suffer. If you are looking for a wide coverage scanner, complete with
  239. birdies, images, intermod, and overload, then the Radio Shack radios aren't
  240. for you. But if you want a solid ham bands only HT that won't suffer the
  241. many ills of wideband scanning HTs, then they are a good choice.
